Garmsar, the most western city of Semnan province with an area equivalent to 9233 square kilometers is located at an altitude of 825 meters above sea level. It is located about 82 kilometers southeast of Tehran. Garmsar lies on the edge of Dasht-e-Kavir, Iran's largest desert. Its climate is clearly one of desert and tropical type and its population was 38,891 in 2006 census.
